Mixed Messages: Exquisite Corpse Book and Lenticular Poster

Around the time I was developing the concept for my senior design project, I was wrestling with a fractured friendship. How could an email message I thought was friendly and innocuous be interpreted by my friend as hurtful and insulting? What did I say???

Humans constantly create verbal and visual messages and send them to imagined or specific audiences. But can any sender anticipate the myriad ways a message might be interpreted? Can a recipient ever fully understand the sender's intended meaning? Chance, context, juxtaposition and an individual's experiences and mental filters all affect how a message may be perceived.

In Mixed Messages, I wanted to make the interpretive role of the message recipient more conscious. Both the exquisite corpse book and the lenticular poster require physical interaction with a viewer to be complete. When a viewer 'activates' the objects, she transforms from passive recipient to interpretive participant in the process of creating meaning.

The event took place on Thursday, Sept. 12, 2019 at The Watergate Hotel in Washington, D.C.

NYT Food Festival, 2019

On October 5–6, 2019, The New York Times drew over 50,000 people to an ambitious new food festival held at The Times Center, Bryant Park, and restaurants in all five boroughs of New York. The New York Times Food Festival brought together the culinary world’s leading chefs, restaurateurs, and industry thought leaders to deliver a one-of-a-kind culinary experience for food enthusiasts across New York City. The festival featured The Times’s top food staff: Food Editor Sam Sifton and columnists such as Melissa Clark, Kim Severson, and others. My primary role on the design team was to art direct and design the program guide for "The Talks," the discussion series held at The Times Center, as well as to design the sponsor style guide and digital assets for the festival.

The 2019 conference featured high profile speakers including Bill Gates and Hillary Rodham Clinton. I designed the branded signage system; agenda and program books; credentials; sponsor/partner style guide and full page post-conference "Thank You" print ad.

The Mimi Awards, 2013

The Harold and Mimi Steinberg Charitable Trust's annual Mimi Awards (aka Steinberg Playwrights Awards) are attended by the Who's Who of the NY Theater Industry. Following branding established by RED's Creative Directors, I finished the design for the print invitation, and designed the email invitation, printed program and event signage for the gala event, giving a refresh to existing Mimi Awards branding elements.
